About the Company

The history started in 1922 when the OSTRIT company was established in Velvary. In 1968 OSTRIT was renamed to KOVOHUTĚ VELVARY n.p. and in 1995 it was privatized to COMAX spol. s.r.o. In 2006 COMAX spol. s.r.o. fused with METAL TRADE BOHEMIA, s.r.o., and since 2007 it has been operating as METAL TRADE COMAX, a.s.

Since 2002 the company has been operating the Stell Service Centre in Kolín, which houses four separating lines with a capacity of up to 40 000 tons of products per annum. 

In 2008 the company made several significant investments – the installation of a new burning equipment, furnaces and a new coating line for an overall value of 140 million CZK, making the Coil-coating line a modern manufacturing facility fulfilling the highest criteria for the quality of coated galvanized and aluminum metal sheeting.

In the same year a new rotary furnace was installed for the manufacturing of aluminum based alloys, along with the completion of construction of storage and manufacturing areas for a total amount of 60 million CZK, thanks to which casting operations today have reached a production volume of up to one thousand tons of products monthly.

In 2009 a modern technological computer was purchased for the coil-coating line with the help of a subsidy from EU structural funds. The computer’s objective is the monitoring and recording of manufacturing parameters for the purpose of ensuring maximum quality of shipped products.

The company investment in 2009 culminated with the purchase of a 90% share in the company CTY KOLÍN, s.r.o. (Ltd.), and a 50 % share in the company KVARTA LITOVEL, a.s. (joint stock company), which was increased to 100% in 2010. 

In 2010 the company innovated processing recyclable wastes of non-ferrous metals; with support from the operational programme Business and Innovation the company purchased technology for special treatment of input waste from Al chips, in order to attain maximum effectiveness of the smelting process and maximum quality of the resulting production of aluminium alloys.

METAL TRADE COMAX, a.s., has 4 manufacturing plants (three in Czech Republic and one in Slovakia) and 4 primary production programs:

The company also operates its own Retail Store at its headquarters in Velvary, with a wide assortment of products from its standard wholesale production.
